Wood deserves more than a quick fix
Wood adds warmth, character and history to a home or garden. Even when it is worn, damaged or no longer working properly, it can often be repaired rather than replaced.
I take time to understand what has gone wrong, what the customer wants to achieve and which solution will be practical, attractive and long-lasting. Sometimes that means a careful repair. Sometimes it requires new components, reshaping, strengthening or a full restoration.
My aim is always the same: to leave the customer with a result that looks right, works properly and feels as though the job has genuinely been cared for.

Repair first. Replace only when it is the better answer.
Older timber often has character and quality that is difficult to replace. Where practical, I prefer to preserve sound material, remake only the damaged parts and restore the whole item sympathetically.

Questions about carpentry and restoration
Can you repair rotten timber?
Often, yes. The important question is how far the damage has spread and whether enough sound timber remains. I can inspect it and explain whether a local repair, replacement section or complete replacement is the sensible option.
Can you trim doors after new carpet or flooring has been fitted?
Yes. I can remove the door, trim it carefully, rehang it and check that it opens and closes properly.
Do you restore furniture?
Yes. This can include structural repairs, replacement components, sanding, cleaning, oiling, painting or refinishing, depending on the item and the result you want.
Can you repair gates, sheds and decking?
Yes. I undertake outdoor timber repairs as well as new construction, including gates, sheds, log stores, decking, fencing and other practical garden projects.
Can you replace misted double-glazed units?
Where the frame and installation are suitable, I can replace failed double-glazed units and make good the surrounding finish.
Do you supply materials?
I can work with materials you have already purchased, or I can research suitable timber, fixings and finishes and agree the options with you before ordering.
